June Garden Events

We have a busy month ahead at 24 Carrot Garden. Here’s what’s on in June.

Fill the Fridge

Join us in our monthly offering as we harvest, prepare, and share a meal to fill our community fridge. One meal will be provided to volunteers, while another is made from the garden’s harvest to put into the fridge for our neighbors to enjoy. Please help keep this program sustainable by bringing your take-out containers.

Juneteenth Watermelon Celebration

We’ll be commemorating Juneteenth and the African Diaspora with watermelon as our Plant of the Day. We’ll have various ways to enjoy watermelon – sweet, savory, juiced – as well as other activities and lunch for everyone to enjoy!

Caribbean Herbalism Workshop Series

The Gulf of Mexico has connected peoples from the Caribbean for hundreds of years, and the migration stemming from rebellion and resistance has fueled a cultural exchange that impacts New Orleans’ food, culture, language, and herbalism today. Join Brandon Ruiz, of Yuca Yeke Farms, as we discuss this history, methods of plant healing, and create medicines to take home that reflect this valuable history and tradition.

Community Garden Day

Help us keep our garden beautiful and learn new skills to bring home to your garden. We’ll be weeding, composting, planting, harvesting, and fertilizing together in small groups. After the hard work, we’ll share a meal, and everyone will leave with plant medicine made by our garden team. Please help keep this program sustainable by bringing 1oz tincture bottles or Mason jars.
