Afterschool Garden Programs

Grow Dat Youth Farm Alumni help replant crops after Hurricane Ida

The garden hosts Afterschool and Saturday programming for youth ages 5 to 16. Register here. Our Saturday programming is drop-in and requires no pre-registration.

Participants learn Louisiana ecology, sustainable gardening, healthy cooking techniques, how to raise healthy and happy chickens and bees, and how to express their creativity with plants.

In the kitchen, we teach basic knife skills and cooking techniques while highlighting the heritage of the produce we grow and use. All of the food we prepare is given to participants and students on campus with extra distributed in the community.

*Introducing Market & Meal on Thursdays evenings from 5:30-6:30pm, which will be a part of our afterschool youth program. Youth can arrive at 4:00 per usual, and parents can join us any time between 5:30-6:30 to hang and have dinner! We had so much fun with the lemonade stand this summer, we are hosting a weekly market with kids to sell healthy items produced in the garden, veggies, canned items, soaps, juices, etc. We will also provide a free community meal so that you and your family can relax and enjoy the evening together at Material Institute.
