2023 Recording Artist Residency Application

Six artists per year are selected to receive: project management support, studio time with a professional engineer to complete an EP (up to six tracks), artist portraits, music industry workshops, a live studio performance video, and a feature in our annual showcase concert. Additional development opportunities include vocal and performance coaching.

Selection Criteria:

We encourage artists of all ages and musical genres with an EP length project of original material to apply. When choosing resident artists, the selection committee considers the following:

Musical Potential – We consider if the artist’s raw material combined with our equipment, engineers, and development opportunities could result in an excellent project. We highly regard originality when listening to submitted music.

Artist’s Investment – We consider the artist’s investment in creating their project and engaging with development opportunities. We look for in-depth, thoughtful answers to the application questions.

Artistic Stage – We are looking for emerging recording artists, those who haven’t had the chance to professionally record a project of their original material.

Access – We consider if the applicant has obstacles to recording their music.

Locals/POC – We prioritize native New Orleanians of color. Additionally, artists must live in the New Orleans metro area.

The Group – We try to build a musically diverse group. Artistic curiosity and collaboration across genres is one of the richest aspects of the residency, so we aim for a mix of rappers, singers, songwriters, beat makers, instrumentalists, etc.

Artist Information

If selected, you will be required to engage with your project outside of the studio by preparing for next sessions, making notes on mixes and masters, attending workshops and project management meetings, etc. We estimate this additional time commitment to be ten hours a week.

In addition to completing your EP, participation in all residency activities – orientation, project management, a portrait session, a video shoot, a performance showcase, and legal workshops – is mandatory.
